How We Transplant Trees Responsibly

Meet the AirSpade Method

Bare-root transplanting, with an AirSpade, may never replace other methods of transplanting. But for specimen tree transplanting, where the value of an existing tree merits the effort involved, it is currently the gold standard. Using compressed air, soil is carefully excavated and removed from the roots, by doing so 85% of the root system is maintained during the process.

  • Minimizes Transplant Shock
  • Reduces Aftercare Requirements
  • Helps Trees Establish More Rapidly

Additional Methods

In some cases we may use alternative transplanting methods. For example, when selling direct to the wholesale contractor so they are able to move and plant the tree on site themselves or when transporting the tree interstate. We use traditional methods and adhere to all nursery standard specifications. In any case we will always advise the best option for the tree and our client.

Wondering if your tree qualifies to be listed?

While there is high demand for a wide variety (thousands of species) of unique mature trees, unfortunately there are also many trees we cannot accept at this time due to various reasons. Please review the guidelines below to get a better idea whether or not your tree qualifies to be listed on our marketplace:

  • Size Limitations

We would love to be able to accept trees of all sizes, but this is not currently possible. Your tree must not be taller than 30’ tall. In addition, the circumference of your tree’s trunk must not exceed 42”.

  • Tree Health & Integrity

Diseased trees, or trees that are damaged or have structural issues are highly unlikely to be qualified.

  • Species

It is difficult to provide specific guidance as it relates to species, as there are thousands of species that could qualify for listing. That said, when thinking about your tree, ask yourself — does it have unique styling such as beautiful flowers, foliage, structure, or bark? Put yourself in the shoes of a potential buyer.

Another great way to find out whether or not your tree qualifies is by browsing our currently listed and sold trees here

The payout will be made by check or Venmo.

Current payout processing time is 3-4 business days.

No, it will not affect your payout.

When relocating a tree, there will be a fee for the Transplanting services as well as a transaction/administration fee based on the appraised value of the tree. Transaction fees range from 20-30% depending on appraised value.

We encourage the customer to choose from our network of experienced RE-TREE certified contractors that have been trained specifically in relocating mature unique trees and shrubs.

The process varies depending on the size of the tree, site conditions, and distance between sites. For example, in 2020 we transplanted a 16’ Japanese Maple within a 10 mile radius and it took approximately 10 hours. In the case of relocating a tree from one area of your property to another, the process will take considerably less time.
